11th Museums Week in Brazil

The 11th Week of the Museums will be held from May 13th to May 19th all over the country.

The 11th Museums Week aims at raising society’s interest in the museum sector so as to raise the number of visitors in museums.

In its tenth edition, Museums Week gathered 1.114 institutions with 3.420 events such as exhibitions, conferences and educational actions open to the public. The number of visitors in the museums rose considerably: 130% in the latest edition against the 87% in 2011.

Apart from the increase of the number of museum-goers, the Museums Week aims at discussing the role of the museum within contemporary society and its interference in it, as well as sharing the best museum professional’s practices.

Last year, the events were organized according to the theme Museums in a world of changes: new challenges, new inspirations with several events that reflected about the role of the museums in a world of ongoing movement. This year, the 11th edition’s theme is the IMD theme Museums (memory+ creativity) = social change, which will also be the theme of the ICOM General Conference, held in August in Rio de Janeiro.
The Brazilian Museum Institute (IBRAM) accepts proposals for cultural activities to be developed in Brazilian museums by February 22nd.
