The National Museum in collaboration with Gaborone City Council will host an exhibition: Gaborone Through The Times on May 18 to commemorate International Museum Day.
The public is requested to take part in the upcoming Gaborone Through The Times Exhibition by providing information or pictures depicting the development of Gaborone from the 1950s to the present. The deadline for submissions is April 12.

April 20th : 1-day Seminar on Museum Education Development
In addition to preliminary improvement works carried out in last years, ICOM, in consultation with the ICOM-National Committee of Egypt as a celebration of International Museum Day, is planning an educational seminar for museum professionals as the museum’s educational role is becoming increasingly important, especially after the recent directive by the Egyptian Authorities that all Egyptian children should visit the museums during their primary and secondary educations.
Aim of the Seminar
The aim of this seminar is to build the capacity of museum educators and curators on the principles and techniques of developing their museums audiences, and understanding their contribution to education in Sudan.
Targeted Groups
Museums professionals from Egypt, Arab Region and fellow members of the International Council of Museums ICOM, plus a group of children from Museums Friend Association.

– Interactive Computer Games
– Audio Visual Interpretations
– Peppers Ghosts performance of historic events
– 3D Dome show on History of Science
But also traditional learning can be observed :
– Object Displays
– Interpretation texts and panels
– Hands on physical interactive learning
– Making and building
– Painting and Drawings
– Theatre activities for children
By examining these different learning skills and understanding of how to develop the primary role of cultural heritage objects to help in the development of the understanding of the local people of aspects of their Tangible and Intangible Heritage, and new techniques of education through developing Egyptian ways of understanding their culture can be explored. The seminar will also examine how the museums operate and how local skills can be used to develop these kinds of museums by utilizing local visitors in museums in areas such as:
– Theatre
– Art
– Music
– Poetry
– Oral story telling traditions
– Websites, Social Media and information
The museums as a premier cultural learning institutions provide infrastructure for different types of learning. It provide a new learning Centre to promote cultural outreach in Egypt, school groups and Children learning areas, disabled learning, academic research and off site learning websites, social media and information.
The Seminar members will have a chance to examine more traditional museums operation and the new exhibits in the Egyptian Museums. It is an opportunity for the seminar to meet their professional counterparts in the Ministry of Antiquities Affairs and Ministry of Culture will also take place.
The Seminar will be held in the Children Centre for Civilization and Creativity, (Cairo Children Museum) in Cairo. This is to allow the museum professionals to see the latest use of teaching techniques in museums in practice in this newly opened facility.

- Behind the scene: Objects will be displayed by every unit in the museum courtyard.
Day 2 (21/5/2013):
- Lecture on the theme will be delivered by a museum professional.
- There will be a cultural dance by a professional dance troupe.
- A drama presentation will be made on the theme of the event by museum staff.
- Presentation of awards to the friends of the museum by the Curator of the station.

The Carnegie Art Gallery will be holding an Open Day for Children aged between 4 and 13, from 09:00 – 12:00. Last year more than 400 children participated and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The aim of the Open Day is to expose children and their parents to the world of art . Children will have the opportunity of participating in a range of hands-on practical activities – 14 in all.
