Beit Abraham Krinitzi, Ramat-Gan

Beit Abraham krinitzi is a museum and an archive of Ramat-Gan which is a city near Tel-Aviv, founded in 1921.

The first Mayor of Ramat-Gan, Abaraham krinitzi, was in office for more than 43 years (1926-1969) when he was killed by a car accident. He left his private house to the town hall in order to turn it into a public institution for the benefit of the inhabitants of the city.

The house was wisely turned into a city museum and eventually a historical archive was added to it.

In the museum there is a permanent exhibition presenting the history of Ramat-Gan interwoven with biography of Abraham Krinitzi. From time to time a temporary exhibition is added focusing on a specific subject, e.g. culture, industry, defence etc.

Museum Activities:

The main activities in the museum are educational activities. The educational department has about 10 different programs; each to a different age, context or  purpose . We also provide guided tours in the city as the museum is located in the historical center where many cites are located. The different citesare of interest and significance in the history of both the city of Ramat-Gan and the State of Israel.

Activities of the Archive:

The Archive assists pupils, students, Journalists and  the general public in research papers on different subjects.

We also publish our own researches and we have so far published 7 books on different subjects.

Special guided tours for adults and families in the recently opened exhibition CAPTCHA, various science demonstrations, building workshop, DIY funny mechanical inventions guided tours, science theatre show.

CAPTCHA – Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart

What do we really know about computers? Are they really so clever?

May 16th 2013 is marked in Israel as IMD. Special guided tours in the new CAPTCHA exhibition, designed for families and adults, will be tackling some interesting questions such as: What are the limits of the computer’s ability? What can’t it compute? Will the computer ever attain self awareness comparable to ours? Can a computer be creative? And what does all this say about us our thinking and the social change sweeping our lives now and in the future?

The electronic computer was invented 70 years ago. Since then it has pervaded our lives to such an extent that we have forgotten to question the meaning of this machine, its scientific basis, and its influence on scientific thinking, both now and for the future. The person who did ask these questions was Alan Turing, the English mathematician who foresaw the computer as early as 1936. Even then, before the first computer was invented, he realized that it would be the mirror through which we would be able to explore the essence of our mind and our awareness. This philosophical breakthrough has established computer science at the forefront of modern science, enabling us to tackle challenging and intriguing problems.

The entire exhibition combines the life of Alan Turing and his immense contribution to the field  with those made by Israeli computer scientists in software and hardware. It also portrays Israelis who have won prestigious awards, in the hope of attracting both younger and older visitors to the field of computer science.

Along with these special tours many more activities will be offered to the public free of charge. Among these activities science demonstrations relating to electricity, light and DIY funny mechanical inventions, building workshop of musical instrument ‘pipetto-pan’ out of pipettes, Science Theatre show, ‘Dr. Molecule’ (with additional charge).

Science Theatre ‘ Dr. Molecule’  – NIS20 per person.

Toybox to Treasure Chest: The Art of Collecting

29 May – 19 June, Ghaf Gallery. Open daily (closed Friday).

Featuring 7 private collections from the UK and UAE, ‘Toys & Treasures’ opens the doors to museum curating. The exploration of playthings and puppets, from past and present, is a fun and enjoyable way to convey the concepts of memory, creativity and social change.

From cameras to spinning tops and space hoppers, the items explore ways in which visual media and design have been instrumental in documenting society, everyday life, cross-cultural discourse and the growth of technology. The Osho collection from London especially highlights the ‘social change’ element. Raised in foster care, Olujimi Oshu’s collection represents a journey of reconnection with a cultural identity and heritage.

In addition to puppet workshops and performance, ‘Toys & Treasures’ is also the culmination of teacher and student curatorial workshops at four schools in Abu Dhabi.
